First Aid at Work

This course can be completed in three face-to-face classroom sessions or via one-day distance learning and two days face-to-face. Depending on your requirements, it can be delivered on or off-site.

Employers’ legal duties
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. These Regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed.

Course Content: First Aid at Work

Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider.
Be able to assess an incident.
Be able to manage a casualty who is unresponsive and NOT breathing normally.
Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive and breathing normally casualty.
Be able to manage a casualty who is in seizure.
Recognise and assist a casualty who is choking.
Manage a casualty with external bleeding.
Manage a casualty who is in shock.
Understand how to manage a casualty with a minor injury.
Understand how to manage a casualty with minor burns and scalds.

Identify the signs, symptoms and history of a casualty.
Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with bones, muscles and joint injuries.
Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries.
Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with a suspected chest injury.
Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds.
Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with an eye injury.
Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning.
Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis.
Be able to administer first aid to a casualty with a suspected major illness.
Have an understanding of both the theory and practice of the use of an AED.
